User Reviews
Pros
- Very useful for planning trips and targeting species using eBird data, showing current sightings and hotspots across regions.
- Useful features like search by species or location and access to checklist comments for access details.
- Easy to use and a go-to tool for discovery in both domestic and international birding.
- Supports abundance reports and region-wide viewing, helping plan excursions and trips.
- Valuable resource for serious and casual birders when it works.
Cons
- Data and taxonomy are outdated; recent species names and splits aren’t reflected, leading to inaccurate life lists.
- Frequent bugs and reliability issues: crashes, UI glitches, long or failed updates, and slow loading.
- Price/value concerns: ongoing subscription is expensive and often not justified by the lack of regular updates.
- Poor customer support and lack of documentation; broken contact options and unresponsive help.
- Sync and data integrity problems with eBird life lists; not all species appear and life lists don’t always update correctly.

Birdeye used to be amazing, but now it’s stopped working and no one from there will respond. No info at all!

The app used to be amazing, but is no longer updated. For instance, my last checklist I submitted to eBird had 32 species on it and this app only picked up 26 of them. My life list is also incorrect. You cannot rely on recent info/#’s. Doubt “All” is still correct.

The premise is great especially for traveling to other places to find target species. I used this for Costa Rica and it was helpful to see what lifers had been reported in various hotspots that I was visiting. It worked pretty well for that. Unfortunately, the developers are no longer updating this app. Recent species renames and splits have not been updated. It was a bit clunky and required internet access to work. I had a free trial for a month and used it a bit when I was in CR but ultimately I did not think it was worth $5 a month so I cancelled after the free trial. The price is way too high for an app that isn’t being regularly upgraded/fixed. Shame.
