Features & Capabilities

Nutrients Canada brings the Canadian Nutrient File to the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The application includes the full contents of the database (2015) prepared by Health Canada.

Health Canada description of the CNF: "The Canadian Nutrient File (CNF) is a comprehensive, computerized bilingual database that reports up to 152 nutrients in over 5690 foods. The database can help you find values for nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, protein, energy, fat and many more, and is updated periodically."

Nutrients Canada displays the contents of the database in a convenient hierarchical fashion and provides a search feature (global or within groups). Clicking on a specific food item will bring up a details page enabling you to obtain actual nutrient contents for common servings or packaging. The actual nutritional information is displayed in a familiar format that mimics the Canadian nutritional value label regulations.

Favorite foods can be bookmarked for quick access while users owning a compatible device and printer can print out nutritional labels.

Nutrients Canada was featured in Episode 47 of KinFit (www.kinfit.tv), a fitness podcast.

so far This appears to be what I’ve been looking for: objective straightforward the facts that are easily accessible. The USDA references are so much more limited, and seem to promote processed foods. sometimes I just want to compare 85 g of raw beets to 85 g of cooked beets. This looks like the app for me. I have found Canadian publicly funded health related references to be more evidence based.

I'm in the USA but this is useful. Doesn't crash. Bookmarks is very nice. The search could surely work better. If I try two keywords such as skim milk hardly nothing comes up. Search alone for milk and the list is exhaustive. Thanks!
