User Reviews

Nutrients offers deep nutrient data and Apple Health integration with a large database and customization options, but faces widespread data gaps, unreliable food entry, recurring bugs, and slow updates. These reliability and accuracy issues limit its overall usefulness for many users.
Pros
  • Extensive nutrient tracking including micronutrients (potassium, vitamins, minerals) and inputs like caffeine and alcohol.
  • Large food database with the option to add custom foods and recipes.
  • Provides insights into nutrient gaps and overall nutrition, not just calories.
  • Integrates with Apple Health.
Cons
  • Database is incomplete and outdated; many common items are missing, and regional labeling can cause inaccuracies.
  • Barcode scanning and manual food entry are unreliable or crash-prone; adding foods often fails.
  • Frequent bugs and incorrect nutrient calculations; day-to-day totals and %DV don’t carry over properly.
  • UI/readability issues and a difficult-to-use journal; limited updates and perceived lack of developer support.
  • Perceived poor value for money due to bugs and lack of timely updates.

The app is a bit outdated. It doesn’t read barcodes. It’s nearly impossible to add items unless you’re using products from certain European countries as it requires all nutrients listed in kcals which of course the US doesn’t use on our labels. So if you don’t mind fudging a bit. It’s not too bad. It seems to integrate well with Apple Health but I’ll have to re-evaluate after a month or two.

As a vegetarian, I use the app to track protein macros. However, many common items (Ex: Trader Joe’s Almond Butter Cups) are not in the database and the app crashes if you open the barcode scanner. There is no feature on the app to request help so there’s no ability to troubleshoot. It’s good for estimating, but since the exact item is likely not listed, it can vary widely. Feels like it was published too soon with no efforts to revise.
