User Reviews

iBird Pro is praised for its depth, offline usability, and rich visuals, making it a powerful field guide. However, a major recurring downside is the shift to a subscription model with access and support issues, along with mixed feelings about the AI features.
Pros
  • Comprehensive all-in-one field guide with range maps, songs, calls, similar species, and habit details; many reviewers say it's more informative and worth the price than traditional field guides.
  • Easy to use and highly searchable, with offline access for travel and field work.
  • Excellent audio-visual content: high-quality bird photos/artwork, clear recordings, and an engaging slide show; Flickr photo integration enhances identification.
  • Helpful learning/organization features: iBirdGPT integration, ability to sort by family, 'Birds around me' filtering, and easy access to favorites and photos.
  • Strong value and reliability for a mobile field guide; packed with features in one app, supporting both beginners and experienced birders.
Cons
  • Recurring subscription model issues: shift from a one-time purchase to a subscription, loss of lifetime access, unclear pricing, and ongoing costs that frustrate many users.
  • Subscription restoration/support problems: difficulty restoring purchases and delays or lack of response from support.
  • Mixed reception to AI features: iBirdGPT garners both praise and complaints; some users want the option to disable it.

I use this app a lot and really enjoy it. The photos are excellent, and having the recordings makes identifying birds much easier, especially for someone like me who is still learning. Highly recommended.

This app is great because I drive a lot and don't have to worry about where my books are, my guide is right on my phone. Having quick access to bird songs is very helpful too. If you are not used to using a database it might take a while to get used to it and make the most of the features, but overall very useful.

The app use to work great. I only used it a couple of times in the spring and fall to identify some birds now they want 10 bucks a month or some such thing for the same service not worth it in my book app has been deleted and never be used again.
