User Reviews

Users praise Runkeeper for long‑term tracking history and accessible analytics in a free, all‑in‑one running platform, suitable for beginners to pros. However, frequent updates have hurt usability, long‑term data comparisons are limited, and reliability issues (GPS, device sync, and mislabeling activities) plus intrusive prompts and save friction are common complaints.
Pros
  • Comprehensive all-in-one app for tracking runs and progress across years and locations.
  • Useful analytics and pace/speed data even in the free version.
  • Tracks basic metrics like speed, elevation, and time in an easy-to-use way.
  • Long-standing history: keeps your running history and progress over many years.
  • Widely adopted and suitable for beginners to experienced runners.
Cons
  • Updates have degraded usability and visuals, making the app harder to navigate.
  • Loss of long-term comparison ability: history and insights limited to the past 6 months.
  • Data reliability issues: GPS inaccuracies, mislabeling activities, and occasional data loss between devices (e.g., Apple Watch to iPhone).
  • Annoying prompts and permissions (camera access) interrupt workouts.
  • Saving workouts can require multiple taps and is frustrated.

I have used this app for a decade and lately every update is worse. It’s visually unattractive but also the once useful options have been rendered useless, impossible to find or difficult to navigate. It’s frustrating. I may finally just stick to Garmin and stop syncing to RunKeeper. Back in 2026. Still terrible. Now you can’t really finesse the insights very well and the aggregate data snapshot always makes you look “behind” last month. Yikes.
