Features & Capabilities

TouchOSC Mk1 is a modular OSC and MIDI control surface for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. It enables wireless sending and receiving of OSC and MIDI messages with major DAWs and software over Wi‑Fi and CoreMIDI, providing remote control and feedback from compatible apps and hardware.

The interface offers customizable touch controls (faders, rotaries, encoders, push and toggle buttons, XY pads, LEDs, labels, and displays) and comes with example layouts plus a free TouchOSC Editor for creating your own layouts. Note: Mk1 is the classic version for older devices; a newer TouchOSC is also available in the store.

User Reviews

TouchOSC Mk1 is praised for powerful, customizable MIDI/OSC control across many DAWs and live setups, and is considered essential by users. However, recurring issues include OSC/Bridge sync problems with Ableton Live, stability problems on newer iOS versions, concerns about ongoing development and support, a dated UI with limited customization, and weak documentation. The app remains a potent tool when it works, but it benefits from continued polish and active maintenance.
Pros
  • Very versatile and powerful MIDI/OSC control with highly customizable layouts.
  • Broad cross-DAW compatibility and flexible control across devices.
  • Essential in live and studio workflows; road-tested and reliable.
  • Consistently updated and supported for years.
Cons
  • OSC/Bridge synchronization problems with Ableton Live; editor not syncing via Bridge and OSC signals not received.
  • Stability issues on newer iOS devices (e.g., iPad Pro on iOS 13.2) and general instability.
  • Perceived lack of ongoing development and support; abandoned-ware; slow/no responses from developers.
  • UI/UX limitations: dated visuals, limited color options, and inability to import custom graphics.
  • Insufficient documentation and learning resources (weak manual, few tutorials).

I’m really frustrated with this app. There is no option to show the editor or desktop, and when I go to add a layout it asks for a host address rather than allowing me to load the layout file that is saved on my iPad.

I’ve tried everything, followed the online “manual” (such as it is) and TouchOSC from my iPad will not send any midi control to Ableton Live. Installed TouchOSC Bridge on my desktop PC… multiple times, TouchOSC finds TouchOSC Bridge my desktop, connects to it with no issue, configured Ableton Live to correctly to send and receive MIDI using the TouchOSC Bridge but no midi commands from sent from my iPad using TouchOSC register in Ableton Live. I have wasted HOURS fighting with this app, did send in a contact request but as of yet no response. Even at one point installed Protokol, using the OSC protocol was able to see the midi messages being sent but STILL… no midi changes in Ableton. I WANT MY FIVE DOLLARS BACK!!!!

Instead of providing existing users with an update or special price for the new version the developer just renamed it and ABANDONED existing users!
