User Reviews

DWARFLAB’s Apple app delivers a powerful astro-imaging workflow with GoTo, calibration, stacking, and a built-in sky atlas, plus Stellar Studio processing. It’s easy to get started and offers strong imaging potential, with active, user-driven updates. However, users frequently face connection drops, update-related bugs, and a clunky UI, and some experience OS/device-specific instability. Overall, the app’s capabilities are compelling, but reliability and polish in daily use remain common concerns.
Pros
  • Powerful feature set for astrophotography (GoTo, calibration, stacking, deep-sky object targeting).
  • Built-in sky atlas and intuitive control that aids planning and navigation.
  • Integrated processing via Stellar Studio, enhancing workflow.
  • Easy to start and use with quick setup and rapid capture of results.
  • Active development with responsive updates and feature additions that improve the app over time.
Cons
  • Frequent connection issues and instability (difficult to connect to telescope hotspot, repeated drops).
  • Firmware/update bugs and mandatory updates that can disrupt usage and introduce new problems.
  • Laggy, cluttered, and occasionally confusing UI/UX (slow performance, hard-to-navigate controls).
  • Inconsistent performance across devices/OS versions (iPhone vs iPad, iOS-specific issues).

Smart telescope works fine, SOME of the app works fine too, but all goes off the rails when trying to edit or do anything with the photos. I try to create an account and the app keeps telling me “security verification failed” with my phone number and email address. They have 1 day to fix this or I’m deleting the app, returning the smart telescope and getting a SEESTAR instead. What a waste of time!

Happy by the months since I got my D2. I was quite skeptical at first, but the App and the DScope have increasingly become better and capable with updates across board. There’s still room for improvement, but the progress and feature set available now, simply makes it a very capable contender to some of the muscle out there.

Constant connection issues, can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to connect to the telescopes hotspot just for it to disconnect 2-3 minutes later.
