User Reviews

Screens 5 is a polished, high‑performance VNC client for Apple devices with strong cross‑device support and built‑in Tailscale. It offers a cohesive Apple ecosystem experience and solid documentation, but reviewers frequently cite concerns over pricing/subscription and fiddly initial setup. Outside LAN reliability can also vary. Overall, a strong choice for security‑mfocused, multi‑device remote access if cost and setup are acceptable.
Pros
  • Polished, high‑performance VNC/remote desktop client for Apple devices with fast rendering and low latency.
  • Built-in Tailscale integration enables secure, hassle‑free remote access without port forwarding.
  • Strong cross‑device support (multi‑device connections) and seamless Apple ecosystem integration (iCloud sync, universal across iPhone/iPad/Mac).
  • Modern, user‑friendly UI with centralized management and good documentation/support.
Cons
  • Pricing model and ongoing subscription costs are a common point of critique, with some users preferring perpetual licenses.
  • Setup and initial connection can be fiddly or unreliable, with multiple users reporting setup challenges before it works.

I used Screens for many years, and it has matured into a comprehensive utility for accessing remote computers, whether on your local network, or across the internet. Support for Tailscale VPN makes secure, encrypted connections easy, and support within the app for “Screens Connect” is a terrific feature. It eliminates the need for running the stand-alone “Screens Connect” app, and also allows the flexibility to configure your VNC port using your router’s UPNP or setting the port up manually. Try it, and you will see how you can connect remotely with all your personal computers.

I recently moved from RealVNC to Screens 5. I think the interface is much more friendly. I had one minor problem and I filed a support ticket. They had a TestFlight version with a fix ready for me to try and use the next day. They sent me multiple email updates on the process of getting the fix into a general release. I always knew exactly what to expect. I was very impressed. Great support and great follow-through!
