User Reviews

Summary: Reviews praise Lichess iOS for its customization, privacy, and feature parity with the desktop version, and note improved performance. However, they repeatedly flag cheating and weak moderation, ongoing connectivity problems, and frustration with the new app versus the old one (including buggy moves and reporting/login obstacles). Accessibility concerns and other UI issues also surface. Overall sentiment is mixed but leans positive on capabilities, with reliability and moderation as common pain points.
Pros
  • Extremely customizable and feature-rich on mobile (time controls and board options).
  • Free with a broad feature set and a privacy focus (minimal data collection).
  • Mobile version now matches desktop/web in features and analysis, with parity to the desktop experience.
  • Improved performance and responsiveness (less lag) across network conditions.
Cons
  • Cheaters and bot accounts in games with weak moderation.
  • Persistent connectivity/server issues, especially impacting fast-paced games like blitz/bullet.
  • The new app can be buggy or less reliable than the old version (moves not registering, choppy gameplay).
  • Sign-in/reporting friction and accessibility/UI issues (login hurdles, screen reader/keyboard problems).

Very good UI and you have access to all of the website features on mobile. You can practice openings and play chess games. Very responsive

I was given a one-hour ban just because I kept declining matches against the same player who had a much higher rating. The app offered me the same opponent five times in a row — someone rated 200+ points above me. Instead of giving me a fair match, it kept offering the same person and then banned me for declining. Please fix the matchmaking and stop punishing players for avoiding unbalanced games.

Love the app but it crashes whenever I I’m in the middle of puzzle streaks.
