Ableton Note is a Chrome extension that helps you start musical ideas fast. It serves as your ideas workspace with a curated selection of drum kits, synths, and melodic instruments, plus a MIDI editor to sequence notes, beats, and chords. Create beats on a 16‑pad or 25‑pad grid, explore melodies, and sample your world with your phone’s built‑in microphone to build your own sound palette. All ideas stay portable and can be sent to Ableton Live via Ableton Cloud, so you can edit MIDI notes and samples in Live without leaving Note. As a bonus, Ableton Note users get a free Live Lite license for quick setup, making it easy to go from idea to finished track across devices.

Capture, experiment, and export: record audio with your phone or an interface, warp tempo, quantize improvisations, and use the grid‑based Session View to create variations with multiple clips and scenes. The app supports looping, Note Repeat, key and scale settings, and flexible effects to shape sounds. When you’re ready, export the project as audio or keep refining in Note before moving on to the full Ableton Live workflow.

I have personally benefited from Ableton Note being easy to jump into. I have made over 400 tracks (of varying quality) since the app first launched. It has helped me avoid social media when I am bored. I also bought the synth engine add-on and I haven’t come to regret either purchase. I like how limited it is. It’s a fun challenge to make a full track. I truly believe that you could make a full song, only moving into Ableton 12 for mixing and mastering. However, I haven’t done this more than one time. I just make stuff on my phone for fun. And fun it is! Edit: They’ve also improved it with each and every update! This is a worthy investment.

This app is fantastic! As a blind musician, this app is one of the very few that is actually totally useable with VoiceOver. Hats off to Ableton for making this app accessible for us little guys. Extremely impressed. There are some very minor improvements that can be made to improve ease of use, like the macro labels being duplicated. Since the knobs themselves are labeled, I wish they would hide the text label, as it only adds an additional swipe to focus on the next knob. Nevertheless, this is a minor complain in an overall great app. Even the MIDI note editor is accessible, though not too useable, as it takes too long to use. Having a sequencer for the notes would be much faster, so first, touching the note you want to edit, then focusing on a step editor and moving through the note steps would be great.
