Features & Capabilities

Ableton Note is a Chrome extension that helps you start musical ideas fast. It serves as your ideas workspace with a curated selection of drum kits, synths, and melodic instruments, plus a MIDI editor to sequence notes, beats, and chords. Create beats on a 16‑pad or 25‑pad grid, explore melodies, and sample your world with your phone’s built‑in microphone to build your own sound palette. All ideas stay portable and can be sent to Ableton Live via Ableton Cloud, so you can edit MIDI notes and samples in Live without leaving Note. As a bonus, Ableton Note users get a free Live Lite license for quick setup, making it easy to go from idea to finished track across devices.

Capture, experiment, and export: record audio with your phone or an interface, warp tempo, quantize improvisations, and use the grid‑based Session View to create variations with multiple clips and scenes. The app supports looping, Note Repeat, key and scale settings, and flexible effects to shape sounds. When you’re ready, export the project as audio or keep refining in Note before moving on to the full Ableton Live workflow.

User Reviews

Users praise Ableton Note for fast, intuitive on-the-go sketching and strong cloud/desktop integration with Ableton Live. It’s a worthwhile, affordable mobile companion for Ableton users. Common drawbacks involve UI/UX rough edges, tricky MIDI editing on touch devices (with requests for a step sequencer and more MIDI tools), missing advanced features and sound options, and occasional cloud-transfer stability issues.
Pros
  • Rapid, intuitive on-the-go idea sketching and workflow.
  • Cloud sync enables seamless transfer of sessions to Ableton Live on desktop.
  • Strong integration with Ableton Live, making it easy to move ideas from mobile to desktop.
  • Affordable mobile DAW with powerful features for quick sketches.
  • Drift synth and ongoing updates enhance on-the-go sound design.
Cons
  • UI/UX and workflow can feel clunky or not intuitive for some users.
  • MIDI editing on touch screens is fiddly and error-prone; lacks a step sequencer and advanced MIDI tools.
  • Missing advanced features and instrument options (no AUV3, no multi-out) and limited sound/module variety compared with Live.

Not sure why the app says $7 but it charged me $38.92

I grabbed this for my flights last week. I’m an avid abelton user and I must say I’m impressed with this app. I’ve made dozens of quick sketches so far. I’m excited to see how cloud works and how these sessions translate to the desktop app when I return. But either way I got exactly what I needed out of this: easy way to quickly program new drum ideas and sampler ideas (I’ve even been sampling off YouTube in the airport). I’ll likely purchase the drift update today as well
