Features & Capabilities

Kagi for Safari intercepts your search requests from Safari’s default search engine and redirects them to Kagi, creating a seamless search experience. It works in Private Browsing as well. Due to limitations in the Safari browser, Kagi cannot be set as your default search engine; some requests may still be sent to your default engine, though the redirect will always succeed.

Kagi search is a privacy-first engine with no telemetry, no ads, and no collection of private information. It uses non-commercial indexes to augment results and offers a clean, high-performance interface with personalized search while respecting user privacy.

User Reviews

Users praise Kagi for Safari for ad-free, privacy-focused, fast search with good Safari integration and a helpful search assistant. However, recurring problems include broken Google integration, login loops and 403 errors, setup friction with Safari extensions, and price concerns for the paid service.
Pros
  • Ad-free, privacy-first search (tracker-free) experience.
  • Fast, high-quality results in Safari.
  • Seamless Safari integration that lets you use Kagi as the Safari search engine.
  • Search assistant feature and some personalization options (e.g., favoriting sources).
  • Value for paying users with ad-free, private, and fast results.
Cons
  • Google results are broken or not accessible in the app, with searches being diverted to Ecosia or other engines.
  • Repeated login/authentication prompts; Safari frequently forces re-login.
  • 403 errors when attempting to search or log in.
  • Setup friction and compatibility issues with Safari extensions (complex configuration, GitHub auth, Safari changes).
  • Price concerns; the paid plan is viewed as expensive and not worth it by some users.
Recent reviews
This extension requires you to give it access to your entire browsing history in order for it to function, which is a non-starter for me.

Bad to begin with, and recently has gotten much worse. It seems everything I search for is being sent to Ecosia now before also being sent to Kagi, which kind of ruins the point. Disappointing

It’s no longer possible to see Google AT ALL, even if I type it in the address bar. The extension completely breaks it. It’s been like that for a couple months now and it’s a paid product.
