User Reviews

Users praise xSearch for Safari as easy to use, powerful with custom engines and shortcuts, privacy-conscious, and affordable. Recurrent drawbacks include poor setup guidance, permission prompts, reliability issues (disappearing extension, inconsistent performance), problematic behavior with certain engines (notably Google), and concerns about privacy claims versus actual data access. Support responsiveness is also noted as a weak point in some reviews. Overall, strong feature-set and value are tempered by setup, reliability, and privacy-related concerns.
Pros
  • Easy and simple to use
  • Powerful with custom search engines and shortcuts
  • Privacy-focused design with minimal permissions
  • Access to Gemini AI, DuckDuckGo, and Bing Images without leaving Safari
  • Good value for money (low price)
Cons
  • Setup instructions are unclear; difficult to configure
  • Requires granting additional permissions; setup can be confusing
  • Reliability issues: extension can disappear from Safari and behave inconsistently
  • Not reliable with some engines (e.g., Google) or redirects to Safari search
  • Conflicting privacy claims; reports that it reads browsing data

When I downloaded this I expected it to work like “context search menu”. I looked online for how to videos but couldn’t find any. This is my first time using extensions on safari and didn’t realize there was an app. I think a how to video would have made this a lot easier.

This app is awful. After enabling it. Then it does nothing. In Safari you click the app icon that opens the dumb xsearch app. Save your money and don't buy it.
