RPG Notebook: Campaign Manager Apple

RPG Notebook: Campaign Manager

World building companion app.

Features & Capabilities

RPG Notebook will help you build worlds, manage campaigns, and keep your notes tightly organized. Here are some of its great features:

*CAMPAIGNS: Choose a name, select a theme that matches your setting, and simply start filling it with all your ideas.

*ENTRIES: They can be customized any way you like with 8 types of sections (from simple text fields to trackers, checklists, and images) that you can name and place in any order you like.

*TEMPLATES: If there's a section arrangement that you like, save it as a template for future use.

*HYPERLINKS: When you finish writing something, the app checks if your text contains any phrases that match an existing entry or group name and automatically creates a link for you.

*MAPS: Every campaign has a dedicated segment where numerous maps can be added.

*MAP PINS: You can add simple note pins or special pins that link to an entry, group, or map.

*JOURNAL: Journal notes will help you keep track of important events that happened during your sessions.

*THEMES: The fantasy theme is great for the most popular tabletop RPG systems like dnd 5e or pathfinder, but the app also has themes for other settings: cthulhu, sci-fi, cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic, steampunk and wuxia.

*ICONS: There are over 4000 built-in icons and 40 colors that you can use in your entries, but you can also add your own.

*BACKUP: You can create a backup file and store it locally or export it so it can be shared with other devices.

*MODES: Both light and dark modes are supported.

*EVERYTHING IN YOUR POCKET: No more forgotten or lost notes. You will always be prepared for the next session or be able to immediately write down ideas that suddenly come to your mind wherever you are! :)

User Reviews

RPG Notebook is praised for its flexibility and robust organization—system-neutral design, strong note-taking, and cross-linking that function well for campaigns and world-building. Reviewers highlight its ability to store characters, maps, and lore with easy navigation. The main drawbacks are: no cross-device cloud sync or account (no web/PC option), stability issues like crashes/long loads after updates, intrusive ads in the free version, and a UI/onboarding experience that can be confusing without guidance. Overall, it's a powerful, affordable tool for writers and GMs who value structure and interconnected content.
Pros
  • Extremely customizable and system-neutral, supporting many RPGs rather than being tied to a single system.
  • Strong organization features: folders, tags, hyperlinks, and character sheets that help manage campaigns, world lore, and NPCs.
  • Excellent for campaign planning and world-building; can function as a wiki for notes and even writing projects.
  • Powerful cross-linking between entries, assets, and maps, enabling quick navigation and reference.
  • Good value for money; affordable with a usable free tier.
Cons
  • No cloud sync or account system; cannot sync campaigns across devices or platforms (no web/PC option).
  • Stability issues on updates: crashes, freezes, or slow loading on some devices.
  • Intrusive ads in the free version; many users want an ad-free option or paid upgrade.
  • Onboarding/navigation can be confusing without a guide; some features are hard to discover or use.

It could use some extra functionality in the journal for play-by-post games, like turning off name links for a note—I’d love to be able to keep whole sessions and refer back to them, without linking back to a character everywhere their name is mentioned. The ability to italicize text (+ other text editor functions?) would also be nice. (My more minor request is that we be able to create trackers that reset to zero rather than full, for things like accumulation of wounds. But it’s pretty easy to just decrease them manually.) Still, it’s a very useful app, and an excellent place to save characters in a system-neutral way. Most of these apps just do D&D, and the ones that don’t usually only do a specific other system. This one is very customizable, and I bought the full version immediately after seeing what it could do.

I got this to originally keep track of my campaign for solo RPG and it very quickly became my Wiki Page for everything creative. I even wrote a quarter of a novel in it just because of the ease of tags, hyperlinks and character sheets. I have since moved the draft out of it (just for formatting reasons, nothing wrong with the app.) but it is still working amazing to keep all my character and world info in. Great work on the app and I would recommend to anyone trying to keep track of multiple characters, backstories and locations.

I used this for an old campaign and it was so useful I spent a long time trying to find it again as it was connected to an old device and Apple ID I no longer have access to. There’s ads now but there are also more features so the trade off is worth it in my opinion and the ads aren’t too frequent. I would love to purchase the ad free version and support the developers but the fact there is no account or way to connect the app between different devices is a bit of a deal breaker + that there’s no website or pc version as I’m stuck doing all the planning on my phone lol.
