User Reviews

Users praise Jomo for effective, customizable screen-time blocking and strong enforcement features (including strict mode and action-based unlocks) with good cross-device support and value. However, they repeatedly note onboarding pressure to pay, occasional blocking inconsistencies, setup/UI frustrations, iPad compatibility gaps, and a lack of accountability/history features. Overall, it is highly valued by those seeking strict control over distractions, albeit with noted reliability and design caveats.
Pros
  • Highly effective at reducing screen time due to robust, customizable blocking (apps, websites) with flexible schedules.
  • Strong enforcement features, including strict mode and action-based unlocks (e.g., photo-based unlocks or workouts) that support adherence.
  • Good value for money; many users feel the annual plan is worth it and cheaper than alternatives.
  • Easy to use with a user-friendly interface and cross-device capability (iPhone and Mac; works with browsers; Apple Health integration).
  • Reliable support and ongoing development; frequently cited as a best-in-class option by users.
Cons
  • Onboarding and pricing perceived as heavy-handed freemium/dark-patterns that push paid features.
  • Blocking can be inconsistent or unreliable, with some apps not blocked and enforcement failing after updates or restarts.
  • Setup and UI can be annoying or confusing (hard to review chosen blocks, miscategorized categories, limited block-all controls).
  • Platform limitations (does not work on iPad; some features feel optimized for iPhone) and occasional cross-device gaps.
  • Lacks built-in accountability/history (no logs of unlocks or rule changes), reducing long-term behavior-change effectiveness.

I have been using Jomo for over a year now and it’s strict rules + restricted time windows have been so helpful for me in cutting social media usage. I hated waking up and checking social media and can say for over a year I get to wake up phone free. I have been advocating for this app to my friends because I think it’s actually a good solution!

Better than Opal. Clean, easy, and very customizable. Has everything I needed and more.. plus it’s a great price for the pro features compared to Opal who charges way too much money.

This app was incredible at first. There is so much possibility with all the features included, but lately, it’s simply not working. The strict modes, which I think are the only true way to limit usage behavior, aren’t counting time spent. I set 30 minutes of X dot com daily, and i’ll be on it for well over 30 minutes and I think to check on my time usage, and it hasn’t counted a minute. In fact, today, it went from locked up, to now I have 15 more minutes of usage. I don’t know what happened with it, but unless It can be fixed, this app is not worth your money. A shame, because it’s far more affordable than Opal, and comes with essentially all the same features. I know the devs are a small team, and I am happy to revise my review if things can change, but I am seeing similar reports of the same issues in reviews here. I would love to buy the app outright for lifetime use, but if it’s not going to work as it should, it’s not worth investing $100 into it. Hoping things can get better.
