User Reviews

Users praise Magic Dice as a free, creative randomizing ambient effect for drums and other textures, but report recurring reliability issues: inconsistent gain, lost wet/dry/mix settings, stuck mix control, glitches, and slow or absent official updates.
Pros
  • Free to use with high value
  • Offers randomized sounds that create interesting ambient and drum textures
  • Creative and inspiring effect that adds character to productions
Cons
  • Inconsistent gain/volume after reloads or on certain sessions (low or excessively loud volume)
  • Wet/dry mix not preserved and the mix control can become stuck at full in GarageBand iOS
  • Persistent bugs and lack of timely updates or support (over a year) impacting reliability

I’ve been using this app for years, and it’s the bomb! Pull your fader way down, though, it’s loud. I’ve never been let down by the random sounds generated by this plugin. One of my favorite applications for this plugin is for drums…

Hi Baby Audio Support, I’m reaching out regarding an issue I’ve encountered with the Magic Dice plugin on GarageBand iOS (iPhone 14 Pro Max), running the latest iOS 18.5 update. Since updating to iOS 18.5, Magic Dice appears to load within GarageBand, but the processed audio is significantly lower in volume than before—despite no changes to track automation or gain settings. When I solo the vocal track, I can hear the effect, but it sounds far quieter than it did in previous sessions where Magic Dice was used as part of the mix. This has impacted the overall vocal presence and balance in my project. It seems the plugin may not be applying gain consistently on reloading a project, or the wet/dry mix isn’t being preserved or triggered properly when the session is reopened. I’ve tested re-tapping the dice to randomize settings, but volume remains low across different variations. Can you confirm if this is a known compatibility issue with iOS 18.5 and GarageBand iOS? Are there any workarounds or updates planned to restore normal plugin behavior? Thanks for creating such a great creative tool — I’d love to be able to continue using Magic Dice confidently in mobile sessions & give a better rating. Best regards,
