User Reviews

Nitro Photo is praised for its capable RAW processing, Aperture-inspired workflow, integrated editing and DAM, cross-platform consistency, and flexible licensing with active dev support. Reviewers frequently cite its strong RAW engine (including compressed RAW) and Finder-based organization across Mac, iPad, and iPhone. However, there are recurring caveats about missing professional features (EXIF viewing/batch editing, soft proofing, advanced masking) and some UI/UX glitches (disappearing sidebars, fiddly curve controls, portrait-mode layout). Overall, it’s a compelling Aperture-era replacement with room to mature.
Pros
  • Powerful RAW editor with broad RAW format support, including compressed RAW (HE*), often ahead of Apple in this area.
  • All-in-one workflow that combines editing and file management, with Finder-style organization; cross-device compatibility across Mac, iPad, and iPhone.
  • Aperture-like experience and a strong replacement for Aperture for long-time users.
  • Cross-platform consistency: one app for Mac, iPad, and iPhone; seamless synchronization across devices.
  • Flexible licensing options (purchase outright or subscription) with a free trial, and a responsive developer with an active roadmap.
Cons
  • Missing professional-grade features such as EXIF viewing/batch editing, soft proofing, and advanced masking (luminance/color masks) as highlighted by reviewers.
  • UI/UX concerns including buggy UI with sidebars that disappear and fiddly curve tools, plus portrait-mode layout issues.
Recent reviews
A younger relative to RAW Power, Nitro has the benefit of the same dedicated developer as well as attractive pricing and digital asset management features to boot. The developer (Nik Bhatt) has a passion for his work which shows in the update/addition cadence as well as his timely response to my questions/suggestions. Nitro has a way to go but it’s on the right track.

After the latest update I’m now getting an error when not connected to the internet and the app will not open. I hope this is a bug because if it’s by design I will delete this app immediately.
