Features & Capabilities

Autel Charge is a comprehensive EV charging companion for both home and road use. Pair it with Autel MaxiCharger to scan a QR code for quick setup, link your Autel Charge card, start and stop charging, and monitor real-time statistics such as power usage, energy costs, and duration. It supports off-peak scheduling to cut electricity bills, shows monthly energy consumption, and lets you set local energy prices for cost calculations. Advanced features include dynamic load balancing to maximize efficiency and home charger sharing for extra revenue. You can also export charge history as Excel files for reimbursement or record-keeping.

On the road, Autel Charge makes finding and paying for public charging effortless. Start and stop charging with a QR tap or your Autel Charge card, view charger availability on maps, filter by connector types and power, and view site details with pictures, hours, and prices. Navigate to sites directly from the app, link a credit card for in-app payments, and manage everything with simple, one-tap actions.

User Reviews

Autel Charge is praised for reliability and a feature-rich app when it works, but recurring issues cut into the experience. Users report significant charging reliability problems, broken bug reporting and weak support, prepaid/payment friction, and UX shifts after updates (loss of real-time kW data, defaulting to public chargers). Connectivity problems in basement parking further hamper use. Overall, experiences are mixed: sound performance and features exist, but persistent issues undermine consistency and support.
Pros
  • Rock-solid app that is well maintained and generally reliable with Autel chargers.
  • Feature-rich and highly configurable, with a wealth of information and options.
  • Positive experiences when the system is functioning and the hardware/app work well together.
  • Clear, customizable information displays that keep users informed during charging.
  • Overall good mobile user experience and ease of use when the system is working.
Cons
  • Charging reliability issues: failures to negotiate the correct charging level, low energy delivery, sessions getting stuck, and amp limits after updates.
  • Bug reporting and customer support appear broken or unhelpful (bug reports often fail to send; support is hard to reach).
  • Prepay and payment workflow is painful: users must prepay, can’t easily reload, refunds are slow, and multi-vehicle payments are not well supported.
  • UI/UX changes after updates degrade usability: loss of real-time kW data, automated defaults toward public chargers, and other confusing interface changes.
  • Connectivity challenges in basement/underground parking: QR activation issues and spotty Wi‑Fi can prevent charging.

The charger itself works fine, but the app/account setup is really frustrating if more than one person in the household needs to use it. My wife and I both need access to our home charger. Apparently you can’t have two owners (“invite” never sends one), so we tried using the same account on both phones. Every time one of us logs in, the other phone gets logged out. Even worse, our charging schedule gets deleted in the process. And “Autostart” gets deactivated, too - which means charger wouldn’t start without actively activating it in app. This is a home EV charger, not a personal social media account. It should be completely normal for two people in the same household to have full access to the same charger without constantly logging each other out or having to check whether the charging schedule is still there. The hardware seems good, but Autel really needs to fix the account and app setup for households with multiple drivers.

Awful system. Easily the worst I've used for EV charging. Frankly didn't work and also didn't work for the person right before me. Can't give it more than 1 star if it won't connect to the system!
