Features & Capabilities

QuickScan Book Leveler helps teachers, reading specialists, and parents organize books and match readers with just-right titles. Scan a barcode to quickly view AR/ATOS, Lexile, Guided Reading/F&P, DRA, grade-level equivalents, interest levels, AR Points, and word count. The app identifies which levels are looked up and which are estimated.

Save and search scan history, filter books, and create shareable classroom library lists with CSV and PDF exports. QuickScan works offline after the initial lookup, syncs your library across iPhone, iPad, and Mac with iCloud, and includes a Home Screen widget for fast scanning. Free daily scans are included, with an upgrade available for unlimited scanning. No ads and no student data collection.

User Reviews

Overview of reviews: The app is praised for time savings, ease of use, and usefulness for teachers and parents. However, persistent issues include an incomplete book database, inaccurate level results, daily limits on the free tier, problematic subscription experiences and pricing, and a lack of history-saving features, along with occasional glitches. When functioning, it’s powerful for leveling, but reliability and data persistence need improvement.
Pros
  • Saves time for teachers by quickly leveling large classroom libraries.
  • Easy to use.
  • Large volume of books available with quick feedback.
  • Helpful for teachers and parents.
Cons
  • Books frequently missing from the app’s database, leading to unknown results or no detection.
  • Subscription/pricing issues, including reports of paying and still getting zero or unknown results and misleading claims about fees.
  • Inconsistent or incorrect leveling (Lexile/GRL) across books.
  • Free version imposes daily scan limits, restricting usage without a paid plan.
  • Inability to save scanned books/history or revisit past scans (no library feature).
Recent reviews
I have not been able to level many books because they do not have them in their database. For the free version you get only so many scans per day. A scan should not count if you do not have it in your database.

Mine keeps telling me the info is unknown and then my daughter scans it and it pops up. And it’s slow
