User Reviews

Users largely praise Magnifier as a free, accessible, and user-friendly tool that helps low-vision users read and inspect details. Many highlight its usefulness for school and daily tasks, and appreciate that it doesn't flood the camera roll with photos. However, common complaints focus on reliability and UI: focus and zoom limitations, a stubborn control panel that can't be hidden, problematic photo saving flow, and occasional compatibility issues with newer iPhone models/OS updates. These issues reduce effectiveness for some users, though the app remains valued for its core magnification features.
Pros
  • Free and accessible tool that helps low-vision users and is widely recommended.
  • Effective magnification for reading text and inspecting small details, and it's easy to use.
  • Ability to save and reuse multiple zoom positions and other settings for quick access.
  • Does not clutter the camera roll with unnecessary photos.
Cons
  • Tap-to-focus and focus lock often do not work, making focusing unreliable.
  • Maximum zoom is not strong enough compared with other tools.
  • Control panel cannot be hidden, it covers text and disrupts readability.
  • Photo saving flow is problematic: photos may be unrecoverable or require pressing send for each image, hindering bulk capture.
  • Occasional compatibility issues with newer iPhone models/OS updates (e.g., iPhone 16, iOS 18) and unstable scene recognition.
