User Reviews

Magnifying Glass is praised as a free tool with solid lighting and useful close-up capabilities for reading and detail photos. However, many users report a confusing, finicky zoom UX, the need to repeatedly tap to keep the light on at high magnification, and inconsistent near-focus with a desire for darker-lighting options. Improvements to zoom usability, steadier illumination at high zoom, and better close-focus/dimming features would enhance the experience.
Pros
  • Free app for light, zoom, and camera features.
  • Clear lighting with an adjustable brightness slider for good magnification.
  • Generally works well and helps with reading and close‑up detail.
Cons
  • Zoom controls can be hard to memorize and configure, leading to unreliable magnification at high zoom.
  • Keeping the light on at high zoom requires steady hands and tapping the screen, which can cause you to lose your spot.
  • Close-up focus isn’t consistently sharp and could be improved.
  • Brightness/light control lacks dimming/night options for darker environments.

A little difficult to memorize the operation of zoom,… but great lighting and clarity. Light has easy brightness slider and looking at first from download appears straightforward to operate. Yet understanding the Zoom Slider on my first project has been mental. If correct configuration of features is not found quickly I would lose the subject matter at higher zoom levels as the slider would not move magnification even though it appears it is. But, it’s free, so try it out. I’m keeping it.

I have an insect infestation in one of my buildings, they are so tiny that I got tired of hearing …you can tell what that is, each time I took a photo. A regular iPhone doesn’t zoom in enough. The only thing I don’t like is that when you zoom in really far, you need to be steady, then you need to keep tapping the screen to keep the light on, then you lose your spot…this gets frustrating. But it is truly the app that is free for light, zoom and camera.
