User Reviews

Inspiral delivers a nostalgic, feature-rich digital Spirograph with a broad gear/color library, easy drawing, and no ads. Reviewers love the depth, iPad/iPhone support, and the option to unlock more content. However, bugs, onboarding gaps, and several UI/UX and feature gaps recur across reviews, hindering reliability and usability. The app shines in concept and depth but needs polish and clearer guidance to reach its full potential.
Pros
  • Nostalgia and faithful Spirograph feel that echoes the classic toy experience.
  • Wide gear, pen, and color options with a generous free tier and a $5 unlock for full access, plus no ads.
  • Digital convenience: mess-free drawing, no wasted paper, and an automatic/auto-draw feature.
  • Excellent cross-device support (iPhone and iPad) with good iPad landscape compatibility and support for Split View/Slide Over.
  • Generally easy-to-use interface with satisfying drawing flow and incremental setting adjustments.
Cons
  • Bugs and stability issues reported (crashes or gear not appearing on some devices).
  • Missing essential onboarding and features (no clear way to create a new canvas, missing Gallery, limited in-app help).
  • UI/UX quirks and feature gaps (menu behavior, landscape-oriented controls, lack of redo, difficulty with quick hole switching).
  • Missing or incomplete tools compared to expectations (notes or annotations with Apple Pencil, ability to adjust paper size/scale, and quick access to shape guides).

I really wanted to enjoy this, but it’s way too buggy, and not very user friendly.

Main menu won’t stay open. Often pens leave gaps. Resolution is too small/course. Can’t adjust paper size or scale gears. There should be an option to do things like have color interpolation with the pen strokes, etc. Until some of these things are addressed I don’t see a reason to upgrade or recommend this app.
