User Reviews

iRetro’s concept and nostalgic iPod–inspired UI garner appreciation for pairing songs from your Apple library, but it’s plagued by instability and missing features. Reviewers report frequent crashes, non-functional controls, and settings that won’t open. Features like Cover Flow and smooth navigation are unreliable, and the app can’t import non-Apple music or connect to Spotify. Accessibility options are limited (no font size control). With years of stagnation, the experience feels unfinished despite the appealing design.
Pros
  • Nostalgic iPod-like UI that appeals to fans of classic devices.
  • Works with your Apple library and can play songs from it.
  • Visually appealing design and overall concept that feels like a real iPod experience.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and overall instability; the app often stops responding or exits.
  • Core features like Settings, Cover Flow, and navigation frequently don’t work or are non-functional.
  • Limited music sources (only Apple Music/library); cannot import non-Apple music or link services like Spotify.
  • Accessibility options are lacking (no font size control).
  • Not updated for years, giving a sense of abandonment and unfinished execution.

The app is good, but it doesn’t let me enter the extras menu for some reason.

THE PROS: Works great with your Apple library! It’ll play every song. And while Apple won’t allow them to use the round click wheel, it’s just fine if it’s shaped like a hexagon. Personally, I don’t mind…in fact, I kinda like it. It performs well, it does what they says it will do. THE CONS: But you can’t change the font size for people who are visually impaired like myself. I don’t mind the albums being listed alphabetically, but what about the people who want listed by the artist? On a side note, any MP3’s or other than Apple library music it will not play. But then you couldn’t play other MP3’s or other from some other source. Neither did the original.
