The MKSensation Xtreme builds on our renowned MKSensation plugin, delivering the most accurate sampled representation of the classic MKS-20 piano module. Rooted in gospel music, the MKS-20 has been a staple in countless gospel albums, often stacked alongside JV-Series, Motifs, and other vintage racks for a rich, dynamic sound. Traditionally, musicians relied on complex MIDI setups to blend and control layers in real-time. MKSensation Xtreme replaces decades of hardware, offering the same powerful layering and live performance flexibility in a single app.
With the power of modern iPads and M1 chips, MKSensation Xtreme provides the equivalent of eight Pure Synth Platinums. Each of the eight sound slots features independent AMP, Filter, Control, LFO, and effects, plus 8-insert effect slots (with up to five effects per slot), along with Global and Master effects. All effect buses are easily controlled via red faders, and, as with all our apps, full MIDI learn functionality is included.
Designed for live performance, the app not only delivers our signature sounds but also allows you to host your own AUv3 instruments and effects. You can seamlessly integrate external sounds, run them through our filters, AMP, LFO, and modulation, and enjoy the ultimate flexibility—whether using MKSensation Xtreme’s sounds or purely its powerful hosting capabilities.
iPad Version vs Desktop
The iPad version is identical to the desktop version as far as features, synthesis, and functionality. The only difference is in sound: We removed the second version of the MKS sounds, so that there is only one main version of the MKS soundest, instead of two different versions on the desktop. The quality is the same.

Reviewers praise the app’s rich, professional sounds and live‑performance versatility, especially Atmosphere Keys 2, and note strong value and a solid patch/set workflow with plugin support. However, multiple reviews cite stability issues (crashes, stalls), MIDI connectivity problems, and patches that don’t consistently play correctly. Backup/import limitations and a confusing patch-management UI are also common complaints. Overall, the app delivers standout sounds and live potential but reliability and UX gaps reduce consistency.
Pros
High-quality, versatile sounds suitable for live performance (notably Atmosphere Keys 2)
Great value for the price with a robust feature set for gigging musicians
Strong support responsiveness and quick problem resolution
Flexible workflow for patches/sets and plugin support for live use
Positive sentiment on sound variety and depth across patches
Cons
Stability issues including crashes, stalls, and occasional no-sound after OS updates
MIDI/input connectivity problems such as no MIDI input or stuck notes
Some patches do not play correctly or clip, leading to unreliable sound
Backup/export/import limitations, including broken backups and lack of easy preset sharing across devices
Confusing patch-pack management and UI, with patch organization and access to sound banks being clumsy for some users
Recent reviews
I love to use this app. I use it every Sunday for church and other events. I find that the sounds available does not vibe well with more contemporary settings. If there was a selection of felt pianos, shimmers effects, arps, plucks, risers, and etc; this app will have a better review from me.
Also, the interface with the additional sound packs (Micro Piano, Clarity Piano, etc) is confusing. If it is all in one place along the other patches, it would be better.
Others things, I hope would be in an update is an button to be able to latch/hold patches and embedded pad drones within the app. All in all, the app needs be updated to accommodate contemporary settings as well.
