User Reviews

Users praise Weekend Read 2 for portable, readable scripts with easy annotation and a clean library of content, including Scriptnotes offerings. However, multiple reviews highlight core drawbacks: the shift to a subscription model with perceived high cost; frequent import/formatting bugs (PDF and Final Draft) that misplace text or fail to import; UI/UX issues that prevent full-screen reading and make settings hard to use; inconsistent Read Aloud playback; and slow or missing customer support.
Pros
  • Excellent for reading scripts on the go; different formats help focus on language and catch errors.
  • Strong annotation features: highlight, take notes, and share quotes.
  • Clean, easy-to-use interface with a helpful library of scripts and Scriptnotes content.
  • The automatic viewer is useful even in the free version.
  • Great for learning screenplay writing by reading scripts in a portable format.
Cons
  • Subscription pricing is a major concern; many users prefer a one-time purchase.
  • Import/formatting issues: PDFs and Final Draft files often misformat or fail to import.
  • UI/UX problems hinder full-screen reading and make settings hard to access (small popovers, persistent bars).
  • Customer support responses are slow or unresponsive.
  • Read-aloud/voice features are unreliable or non-functional.

I heard about this on scriptnotes. It’s incredibly useful for reading on the go. Plus, it helps give me a new perspective on my own writing . You get so used to the shape of your script on the page that seeing it in a different format really helps me focus on the language itself. Helps my brain finally pick up on all those little errors/typos I’ve read over 1000 times on autopilot.

Uploaded a pdf and the app broke the pages up randomly and deleted text. Wouldn’t be an issue if the text formatting button worked but it doesn’t open fully so I can’t see any of the settings. In my opinion it’s unethical for this to be advertised on script notes and for them to be asking money but not fixing app breaking issues. Sure maybe it works on iPhone but come on.
