User Reviews

Amperfy Music is praised as a solid Navidrome client with a clean, fast UI and good self-hosted support. Users love its Navidrome compatibility, straightforward setup (even on Raspberry Pi), and reliable, responsive playback, including fast FLAC gapless playback. It’s open-source and subscription-free, and generally performs well for mid-sized libraries. The main drawbacks across reviews are CarPlay instability, several post-update regressions (lag, duplicate albums, battery drain), missing features (crossfade, equalizer, lyrics, smart playlists) and some AirPlay/macOS limitations. Overall, strong foundation with room for feature polish and cross-platform refinements.
Pros
  • Excellent Navidrome compatibility and easy self-hosted setup (works well with Navidrome servers, including Raspberry Pi, with support for multiple IPs).
  • Smooth, fast, and polished UI that is easy to configure and navigate.
  • Open-source and subscription-free; generally reliable for most users.
  • Fast FLAC gapless playback and reliable playback across supported backends (e.g., Airsonic).
Cons
  • CarPlay is buggy and inconsistent across devices, often requiring extra steps or failing to launch.
  • Post-update regressions and battery drain: lag, duplicate albums, and higher power usage.
  • Missing features and workflow gaps: crossfade, replayGain, native sample-rate playback, lyrics, and smart playlists.
  • AirPlay on macOS is flaky or non-functional; AirPlay targets can fail.

Everything i’m looking for in a music player. The ui stutters quite a bit both on mobile and carplay, but other than that, I love it!

Seems to be unmaintained, has hundreds of open bugs in the bug tracker, most with no response. Also tries to try to download all the metadata from every song when you first set it up, which takes forever on large libraries and completely drains your battery even when you aren’t playing anythjng.
