User Reviews

Watch-to-5K offers a simple, affordable, watch-first CT5K experience that lets you train without an iPhone and integrates with Apple Health. It’s praised for a straightforward plan and a one-time purchase, but common drawbacks include limited metrics, unreliable audio prompts, and some reliability/data-sharing limitations.
Pros
  • One-time price / no ongoing subscription
  • Works on Apple Watch without needing an iPhone during workouts
  • Simple, beginner-friendly plan that effectively supports Couch-to-5K progress
  • Good integration with Apple Health/Apple Watch data and easy access to run stats
  • Clear, motivating prompts and straightforward music control on the watch
Cons
  • Lacks advanced metrics (no cadence, no heart-rate zones) and primarily basic stats
  • Audio prompts can be unreliable or inaudible with certain headphones (inconsistent experience)
  • Limited data-sharing/export options (Strava integration not straightforward)
  • UI/UX can feel clunky and there are occasional reliability issues (e.g., timer freezes)
  • Some device/setup limitations or compatibility issues (e.g., setup on child watches) and occasional battery-related concerns

I’ve tried several of these watch – based running apps and this one is by far the easiest to start up and actually follow. I start Pandora in the background, start Watch to 5k and away I go. I look forward to the different runs and reviewing the data once I get back in cool down. Seeing the different splits for the different intervals is very nice. It’s interesting to see how running segments of the same time produce shorter or longer distances and higher or lower heart rates based on going uphill or going downhill!

Design looks nice but it's very annoying if you want audio prompts and music at the same time. I have to disconnect my headphones from my phone and connect them to the watch and then change the music output to the watch as well. Wouldn't have purchased if I knew I had to stumble through that process every time I use it.
