Slicer & Sampler instruments

Features & Capabilities

sEGments is a versatile slicer and sampler tool for creating and performing with audio loops. Import any loop or sample, let the app automatically detect transients or place your own markers, then trigger slices via MIDI or the built-in pads. Each slice can be played chromatically with up to 12 voices and has independent parameters and per-slice effects.

Standalone or AudioUnit (AU3) capable, sEGments supports multi-output, drag & drop imports, up to 16 slices with ADSR and effects (delay, reverb, bitcrusher, filter), six triggering modes, BPM and key detection, and live time-stretching and pitch shifting. Open slices in EG Pulse, record from mic or other apps, and download sample packs. This is the first version—your feedback is welcome at info@elliottgarage.com.

User Reviews

sEGments is celebrated as a powerful, precise sampler with strong cross‑app and GarageBand integration and a workflow that feels hardware‑grade on iOS. However, reviews repeatedly cite stability concerns, licensing/restore hassles, limited pitch controls, and a cap of 16 auto‑slices as the main drawbacks. Overall, it’s a game changer for mobile production with room for reliability and UI improvements.
Pros
  • Powerful, precise slicing with surgical control over each slice, whether manual or automatic.
  • Cross‑app and cross‑device workflow, enabling chopping on iPad or iPhone and smooth handoff between apps.
  • Excellent GarageBand integration with a stable, native‑like AUV3 experience.
  • Feels like a hardware sampler; widely praised as a game changer for mobile production (close to Serato Sample on desktop).
  • Fun to use and professional‑grade, inspiring workflow.
Cons
  • Stability issues: crashes when accessing settings and intermittent host‑app crashes (e.g., Cubasis/BM3) before fixes.
  • Restore/purchase issues: recharging after reinstall or restore failing to recognize ownership.
  • Pitch control/interface not intuitive: pitch bar is awkward; users want knobs or numeric controls.
  • Auto-slicing limited to 16 slices for long samples, constraining certain workflows.

I tried sEGments a few years back when I purchased it, but never did a deep dive until TODAY. This app is on par with hardware samplers! I’ve been producing professionally for over 25 years and Today I just made myself the official brand ambassador for Elliott Garage! I’m about to show the world how powerful this app and the developer is! ~ Lumbajack

Elliot Garage changed the game with Segments. This isn’t just another sampler—it’s a sound-design playground that gives you surgical control over every slice. Whether I’m chopping manually or letting the automatic detection do the heavy lifting, the workflow feels smooth, intuitive, and genuinely inspiring. It’s rare to find an app that turns sampling into pure fun—Segments does exactly that. For years, I relied heavily on BeatMaker 3 for my sample chops—an absolute beast in its own right—but I always felt boxed in since I couldn’t use my chops across different DAWs that better fit my evolving workflow. Segments fixes that. Now I get that same detailed chopping experience, but with the freedom to move seamlessly between apps. On top of that, being able to work on chops anywhere—whether I’m on my iPad or even my phone—is a complete game changer. Honestly, Segments is the closest thing we have to Serato Sample on desktop, but built natively for the iPad ecosystem. It feels like the missing piece I’ve been waiting for. I will add that the editing/dragginh bar concept is cool but I feel like it’s very limited and I’d definitely prefer knobs maybe have the option to manually type a number for things like the pitch but it’s not to much a bother so even if that never changed I won’t complain If I could ask for future additions, it would be stem control—the ability to isolate vocals, drums, bass, and instruments right in the app. That would take Segments from incredible to industry-shifting.And being able to pitch the initial sample from the bar in the middle of screen without having to redo it after adding in my other chops because the pitch bar at the top always gives me trouble but once again I make it work so no complaints.I also think having the means to also trim the sample if it’s a longer song would be beneficial. Elliot Garage, keep going. You’re not just building an app—you’re shaping the future of mobile production. If you ever open up beta testing, I’m all in.
