Features & Capabilities

Blood Oxygen is a health and fitness extension that lets users measure blood oxygen saturation directly from the Apple Watch. It supports on-demand readings and continuous background monitoring throughout the day and during sleep when worn.

Your measurements are stored in the Health app on iPhone and can be filtered to view sleep-related values or high-elevation readings. Note: on certain US models sold after January 18, 2024 with part numbers ending in LW/A, data analysis is performed on the iPhone and results are viewable in Health.

User Reviews

Users mainly report accessibility and compatibility barriers: trouble downloading/installing on iPhone or Apple Watch, regional or account restrictions, and device compatibility problems. Some see the app’s core function as measuring blood oxygen and note potential use for asthma or aviation, and they like the animation. However, a key feature gap is missing low-oxygen alerts, and requirements aren’t clearly communicated by the store/health apps.
Pros
  • Measures blood oxygen levels
  • Appealing animation/UI
  • Potential usefulness for asthma management
  • Potential usefulness for pilots
Cons
  • Installation/download issues on iPhone/Apple Watch
  • Regional/account restrictions blocking download or use (e.g., US eligibility, Iran restrictions)
  • Compatibility issues with certain devices/models (e.g., Watch Series 6 in Iran, Siri's 3)
  • App store/Health app not stating clear requirements
  • Missing low blood oxygen notifications/alerts

Why
by Qu*****, 2022-03-12

This is frustrating. How do I get this on my watch? I have followed all the instructions.
by Ma*****, 2022-03-07

Anyone with a watch should be able to access HEALTH features. Blood oxygen levels are not inappropriate for anyone to see.
