User Reviews

Users praise the app for its varied practice modes, engaging visuals, and vocabulary focus, useful as a supplement to other learning tools. However, common drawbacks include audio pronunciation errors, price/billing concerns, occasional bugs or non-working features, and content/visual clarity issues for certain languages. Overall, it offers a fun, efficient vocabulary-building experience but suffers from quality and usability problems that affect trust and consistency.
Pros
  • A wide variety of practice modes (multiple choice, matching, spelling, drag-and-drop) keeps learning engaging.
  • Colorful visuals and illustrations make the app feel fun and visually engaging.
  • Effective for building vocabulary and quick recall; useful as a supplement to other learning tools.
  • Fast, quick, and engaging; quick practice sessions help maintain interest.
Cons
  • Audio pronunciation is often inaccurate or machine-generated across languages, leading to unnatural speech.
  • Perceived high price and confusing subscription/billing issues, with concerns about value for money.
  • Occasional bugs or instability, plus some exercises not functioning as intended (e.g., early reveal of answers or non-working tasks).
  • Content/visuals can be unclear or less helpful for certain languages (e.g., kanji) or when pictures are hard to decipher.
Recent reviews
The audio has errors for multiple languages. In Arabic the word for fish is clearly written as “samak”, but the app pronounced it as “sam”. I found similar issues in Spanish, German, and Mandarin. The audio is from a machine translation source so it doesn’t sound very natural in many spots as well. If trusting the accuracy of what you’re learning is a big point for you, especially given the $30 to $150 price range, maybe check out something else. If you’re an Anki user and you are fine with machine pronunciations, then this provides variety beyond just flipping cards.

I didn’t know how to get answers other than to leave a review. So I downloaded the hello Talk app first and accidentally purchased the hello words plus subscription for 1 year; which I know you can’t refund or switch them so I’ve been trying to figure out how to use the subscription that I paid for. But when I downloaded hello words, it prompts me to pay for the subscription I already paid for. So basically I paid for something I’m not even able to use. So if you can fix this issue and tell me how to use what I paid for, I can and will definitely leave a real review about the app, if you can tell me how I can use it.
