User Reviews

Users praise Alive for its breadth of workouts, customization, timers, weight tracking, and Apple Watch support. Recurrent downsides include billing/cancellation friction, app crashes, unreliable saving/offline access, music playback disruptions, and limited control over rest intervals. Overall, it’s valued for guidance and versatility but challenged by reliability and billing UX concerns.
Pros
  • Wide range of workouts and programs with multiple trainers, including at-home and gym options.
  • Highly customizable: swap exercises, choose programs/trainer, and tailor workouts.
  • Built-in tools: timers, rest periods, voice cues, and an on-screen weight tracker for quick progress checks.
  • Clear videos and explanations with alternative movements.
  • User-friendly interface with a clean design and Apple Watch compatibility.
Cons
  • Billing and cancellation issues, including difficult cancellation and ongoing/unauthorized charges.
  • Frequent crashes or the app not opening, plus stability problems after updates.
  • Saving progress is unreliable; workouts may not save offline or autosave is missing; offline mode requested.
  • Audio playback problems: music gets paused or lowered during workouts due to the app.
  • Rest intervals and workout sequencing are hard to customize (long rest times, limited interval changes).

I like this app, been using it for years. I think it has a nice variety of programs. I wish ab/core workouts were included in full body workouts more. It seems to be a muscle group that gets neglected in nearly every program unless you select an ab workout to tack onto the end. Would be nice if I didn’t have to piecemeal workouts like that just to get core exercises. Would also love a program focused on cross training to improve running.

I have been following the 3 day essentials program for about a month now and it is so easy to follow, super user friendly and gives me a great workout every time!! Takes all the guess work out of going to the gym!
