Features & Capabilities

Luxilux Light Meter turns your phone into a pocket light meter for film photography. It meters from the preview image, lets you specify metering area by zooming, supports multiple back cameras, and can meter points of interest for accurate exposure.

Use Av, Tv, or M modes to automatically calculate shutter speed or aperture for proper exposure, and save exposures with previews to your library (location tagging optional). Manage profiles with full, half, or third-stop steps and set min/max values for your camera and lens setup.

User Reviews

Users praise Luxilux Light Meter for its clean, well-thought UI and reliable light readings that suit film and manual photography. It’s repeatedly described as a practical, privacy-conscious meter that pairs well with old cameras and provides a focused alternative to expensive gear. While some feature requests appear, such as finer ISO control increments and optional grid/level overlays, the core function—measuring light and suggesting camera settings—works smoothly and is considered a strong, value-driven tool for photographers who prefer hands-on exposure control.
Pros
  • Great UI and design; easy to use.
  • Accurate light readings that help manual/film photography.
  • Excellent companion to old manual film cameras; not a camera, just a meter.
  • Privacy-friendly with a no-data-collection policy.
  • Reliable performance and solid value for a meter app.

The ISO choices jump in large increments. When I pay for an app, I expect a bit more refinement than a free app. For example, when using ISO 125 film, I have to use the 100 setting in the app and then do some math myself to compensate. Can’t the app do the math for me and let me adjust the ISO in small increments?

Please add a grid and a level. The app updated is wonderful for me, but I’m missing a grid and a level. It’ll make it way easier for me to get the shot and it’s not cut off but leveled and in a grid. Other than that, I’m loving the app now because of the useful upgrades it brings me! Thanks for the update. Hopefully, I’ll see a grid and level soon added to this app.
