User Reviews

Users largely report that Lux Light Meter Pro is unreliable and difficult to trust. The top issues are erratic and inaccurate readings, frequent bugs and unresponsiveness, and a subscription-driven pricing model viewed as bait-and-switch. Additional concerns include unclear units and interpretation of results, and limits on maximum measurements. A few note it can work in very simple scenarios or with workarounds, but the overall consensus is that reliability and value are poor in its current state.
Pros
  • Core function: provides light measurement (lux) for a target area, which is the app's primary purpose.
  • Reported use in simple scenarios (e.g., measuring apartment hallway lighting) for quick checks.
  • Some users indicate workarounds (e.g., back camera) can yield readings in certain cases.
  • Historically, the app has been used in educational contexts for basic lux measurements.
Cons
  • Highly unreliable and inconsistent readings: same light source yields widely different values across trials; initial spikes can skew averages.
  • Frequent bugs and poor reliability: app unresponsive, Help tab errors, readings not saving, and features not working as advertised.
  • Forced subscription model and perceived poor value: ongoing charges, poor trial experience, and reports of a nonexistent free version.
  • Unit and interpretation confusion: unclear when to use lux vs fc, with questions like whether FC values should be scaled (e.g., multiply by 100).
  • Readings capped or limited (e.g., max around 1741 lux) and poor calibration against professional meters; not dependable for high-intensity sources.

Why do lumens only show up as the values 2 → 55 → 94 → 145 → 214 … with the actual number flickering around /- 3 for each? Try this experiment: move the spot along a brightness gradient. Or change your computer monitor brightness. You'll never see a number /- 3 away from those values. Tested it on 3 different iPhones. So if error margins < 50 lumens are unacceptable to you, avoid.

Tried to use the 3 day free trial, did not work whatsoever. Reinstalled and tried to restore purchases but still could not use any paid features
