User Reviews

Dog Assistant is praised as a comprehensive, multi-dog tracking and training tool with strong family-sharing features and responsive support, often described as a lifesaver for puppy care. However, recurring concerns include the need for online-only access, high price for multiple dogs, update-related data migration/login issues, performance lag, and a non-intuitive time-entry UI. Addressing offline access, pricing, update reliability, and input UX would likely broaden its appeal.
Pros
  • Comprehensive, multi-category dog tracking and training features (potty, meds, meals, vaccines, weight, vet visits, journals) make this a complete dog-management tool.
  • Strong collaboration/family sharing across devices; multiple users can log and stay in sync.
  • Intuitive, quick to adopt with easy data entry; users report getting started within hours.
  • Responsive, helpful customer support and ongoing improvements from the team.
  • Widely regarded as a lifesaver for puppy care and routine planning.
Cons
  • Requires online connectivity; offline logging is not supported and outages hinder logging/viewing data.
  • Pricey subscription, especially for tracking more than one dog; value questioned.
  • Update-related data migration and login issues (difficulty importing data from old version and occasional login/password problems after updates).
  • Performance lag when logging and slow app launches; users want caching to avoid constant cloud fetches.
  • Time-entry UI can be non-intuitive (non-native time picker/awkward date-time input).

We’ve been using this app for a year and a half and it was definitely helpful in house training our dog. There are a few things however that keep this from being a five star app. The first one is the fact that it has to be online to log an activity. Where I live we have very spotty Internet and I’m not always within Wi-Fi range and the app just takes forever to load. It would be great if we could record this data off-line even if it would just have to sync up later. The other thing that is just really weird is the time selector for logging the time of different activities. It’s designed sort of like an analog clock and it really is not intuitive. iPhone has some established scroll selectors that make much more sense. Besides that the app does what it says, and it’s great to be able to look at historical data. Although the amount of analysis that you can do in-app is very limited, you can export into AI or a spreadsheet and identify some fun trends.
