Pros

  • Strong family sharing and cross-device syncing for multiple users.
  • Apple Watch compatibility and quick, on-device logging with home-screen widgets.
  • Responsive development team with frequent updates and helpful support.
  • Easy-to-use, well-organized interface that makes managing routines simple.
Cons
  • Data syncing/sharing across household or between users is unreliable; logs may not be visible to other users.
  • Logs and entries disappearing or not saving reliably, leading to lost data.
  • Reminders are unreliable or require a premium subscription to use.
  • Performance glitches and slowdowns after updates; occasional crashes or forced closes.
  • Monetization changes (ads or feature restrictions after subscribing) impacting usability.

I have been using this app for several months and find it very helpful for keeping track of the assorted Dog Tasks and behaviours. It helps us stay on top of who fed the pup last and how long it’s been since he last went out and whether he is due for a nap and that’s perhaps why he’s being a toolbag (you know, puppy stuff). Anyway, yeah. I like it a bunch, you know that to do!

I got the paid version of this app so my partner and I could share information about when our puppy last used the bathroom, ate, or took supplements more easily, especially on days when our schedules were very different. I’m also a data scientist and biologist, so I liked the idea of getting graphs and heatmaps of my dog’s behaviors and progress. I first got Doggy Time in Sept/Oct 2025, and it worked relatively well for the first couple months. There were a few minor bugs like her breed not updating in the summary or insights sections. However, in the past two months (starting ~April 2026) the app has become more and more buggy, affecting the core functionality. Most frustrating is that the app now frequently logs you out without any clear notification that you’re logged out (ie, it doesn’t prompt you to log back in upon opening), so it’s not sharing events across users in my “team” - the whole reason I pay for it. Then, since the app doesn’t have you set a password, and instead sends you an email with a passcode, I have to wait for that to come through in order to log back in. All while trying to get my puppy to stay still and get her paws wiped off, or not eat any plants in the backyard. I’ve also had about 75% success in actually receiving the passcode via email (and yes, I’ve checked spam). There’s also issues with syncing between Apple watch entries and the phone app, which aren’t as important to me, but it does sometimes mean I’m missing important data for some time. The GPS tracking during walks is problematic as well, and I regularly have to correct the distance we walked with the more accurate tracking from my fitness app. I feel like I’m doing all the work of entering (and correcting) the data AND paying for the app, while the product I expected keeps declining in quality. I will be canceling my subscription before it renews again.
