User Reviews

Users generally praise FFCalc as an ad-free, useful retirement-planning tool with strong free features and a positive vibe toward supporting the developer. However, recurring complaints center on calculation accuracy and transparency (compounding and inflation handling), pricing shifts (subscription models and price hikes), and missing or inflexible features (earn rate adjustments and taxes). These repeat across multiple reviews, affecting overall satisfaction despite the tool’s usefulness.
Pros
  • Ad-free experience (no ads) across reviews mentioning a clean, distraction-free UI.
  • Strong core functionality available for free, with reviews noting the app works well without paying.
  • Useful retirement planning tool with features like modeling multiple periods, appreciated by users.
  • Positive sentiment and willingness to upgrade or support the developer by purchasing the full version.
  • Some reviewers cite affordable or reasonable upgrade options compared to subscription fatigue.
Cons
  • Calculation accuracy and transparency issues: numbers often don’t match expectations, compounding appears off, and inflation handling/contribution timing is unclear.
  • Pricing changes and subscription model concerns: introduction of monthly fees, annual charges, and perceived removal of prior features.
  • Missing or inflexible features: inability to adjust earn rate, lack of tax calculations, and limited variables for retirement scenarios.

There is a flaw in this app in that it is using my salary to calculate my monthly savings, which when annualized equals my salary. This is not an accurate or dependable application and needs to be fixed.

About 2 years ago when I first downloaded FFCalc it had a lot more features such as monthly income support, interest rate inputs, etc. Today when I wanted to create a new plan all this has disappeared and it is now asking for $2.99 fee per month. I’ll just put together my own spreadsheet and delete this app.

It's a great tool, love the ability to add multiple periods. However the numbers don't match my calculations, so it needs more clarity around how the compounding is figured: - compound interest seems to be off by about -1.14% for a simple $0 expenses no inflation 2yr plan. It varies with years. - unclear how often inflation is figured (monthly?) - unclear if contributions are calculated at the start of the month or the end
