Features & Capabilities

Drambo is your all-in-one modular sound lab that adapts to your workflow: build beats as a groovebox, design synths, or transform audio with effects—standalone or AUv3 in your DAW.

Its cable-free, auto-routing modular design makes patching fast and intuitive, with a dynamic interface that reveals modulation controls when you need them, and lets modules nest for clean organization. You’re free to override automatic connections, but most of the time you can dive in and shape sounds quickly.

Features include a deep 16-voice polyphonic sequencer with parameter locking, automation, and scene morphing; 140+ modules (oscillators, samplers, physical modeling, filters, effects, MIDI tools, and more); nested racks with presets at track, rack, and module levels; MIDI, Ableton Link, and AUv3 hosting in compatible hosts; and a morphing slider system for rapid sound design. Drambo can run as a standalone app or as an AUv3 instrument, effect, or MIDI processor, making it a versatile studio and live performance tool.

User Reviews

Drambo is praised for its unparalleled depth and modular flexibility, effectively delivering a DAW-like mobile studio with AUv3 hosting and advanced sequencing. Users value the power, sound design potential, and ongoing updates, but note a steep learning curve and occasional stability issues, including crashes and save/undo limitations. Overall, it’s a transformative, feature-rich tool that rewards persistence and experimentation on iOS.
Pros
  • Extremely deep and flexible modular environment that can emulate many synths, host AUv3, and function as a mini DAW/sequencer.
  • DAW-like capabilities with per-step modulation, clip launching, advanced routing, and powerful sequencing.
  • Great value and active development; frequent updates add features and keep the app evolving (e.g., Mutable Plaits, improved help).
  • Mobile-friendly UI that uses screen space efficiently and feels like a studio in your pocket.
  • Strong learning resources and tutorials that help users master the system and unlock its potential.
Cons
  • Steep learning curve; mastering the system takes time and effort.
  • Stability concerns and crashes after updates, with reports of instability and data loss.
  • Undo limitations and some save/input validation issues can lead to accidental data loss or workflow friction.
  • UI can feel overly complex or obstructive at times, requiring menu diving and patience to navigate.

If I had to pick one synth to have on a desert island it would be Drambo no contest. I recreated just about every synth patch from other stuff with Drambo and the ability to fiddle with any connection however you want leads to so much creative possibilities. I was initially intimidated but once you get over the first hour it’s hard to really go back to anything else with this level of power, quality and flexibility. D

This is the best mobile groovebox I've ever used, so much so I consider it a DAW. An absolute blast to play.

MI Plaits, voice synthesizer, improved help system… so many great additions! Best groovebox on iOS, period.
