User Reviews

Wake Up Light uses HomeKit-enabled bulbs to simulate sunrise, a feature lauded for its seamless integration with HomePod and its sleek UI. The biggest drawbacks are the recurring subscription costs and the learning curve to configure scenes, especially for larger setups, which can clutter HomeKit and occasionally misbehave. Overall, it's a strong option for HomeKit households seeking a smart sunrise, but users should weigh ongoing fees and setup effort.
Pros
  • Seamless HomeKit and HomePod integration, making it easy to automate wake-ups with compatible bulbs.
  • Authentic sunrise effect: gradually ramps brightness to simulate dawn across connected lights.
  • Beautiful, intuitive interface with straightforward troubleshooting.
  • Reasonable price for an independent developer and good value compared with dedicated wake-up hardware.
Cons
  • Subscription-based pricing locks many features behind a premium rather than a one-time purchase.
  • Not a standalone alarm app; requires HomeKit/smart-home setup, which can be confusing for new users.
  • For larger setups, the app can create many scenes that clutter HomeKit and sometimes cause instability.
  • Occasional reliability issues (updates slow, light control hiccups) and some onboarding/contacting developer friction.

I wanted to use this to light my entire room up (8 bulbs) but if you add more than three, the shortcut to set the alarm time fails and actually deletes the wake up light completely.

I don't know what "home kit" is, but this app won't work without it.

Using this with Nanoleaf light bulbs and HomePod Mini. I could not be more pleased. I don’t even mind the subscription fee for the ease of use it’s worth it. The integration with my HomePod was seamless. The setup is simple and intuitive.
