User Reviews

PlaneEnglish ARSim offers strong hands on radio practice with customizable scenarios and broad coverage across VFR/IFR, plus cross device use and pronunciation help. Repeated drawbacks are unreliable voice recognition, a clunky UI, offline limitations, pricing concerns, and wish for more realistic ATC voices. Improvements in recognition accuracy, navigation, and realism would boost its usefulness for new students and classroom use.
Pros
  • Realistic ATC and radio practice with customizable scenarios (local airports, callsigns)
  • Broad, structured coverage of VFR and IFR radio concepts
  • Cross-device compatibility with a usable free access tier and pronunciation guidance
  • Helpful pronunciation training and self correction features
Cons
  • Voice recognition is unreliable and inconsistent; words are missed or misinterpreted
  • Clunky, non intuitive user interface and controls that can be confusing for new users
  • No offline mode; relies on internet connectivity to function
  • Subscription pricing and content access concerns; value and coverage may not meet expectations
  • ATC voices are synthesized and feel non realistic; better to use real voice recordings

This is a solid C+ app, but I really don’t like that you need to tap the mic icon to speak and the speaker icon to listen. It should be a fluid conversation like it is with Siri or Alexa or Whisper or 11labs voices. It feels pretty archaic the way it is, and because it requires full attention it’s hard to train for multitasking and distractions like will be given to you on cog and compass tests
