User Reviews

Users praise Fresco for its rich brush options and strong animation/storyboarding capabilities, plus being beginner-friendly and free with no ads. However, there is notable frustration with a recent UI overhaul that moved toolbars and controls, and many request an option to revert or customize the layout to the previous workflow.
Pros
  • Rich brush options and live brushes (including watercolor) with a lot of variety.
  • Strong animation and 2D storyboarding capabilities for creative work.
  • beginner-friendly and easy to use on mobile with intuitive gestures.
  • Free to use with no ads or hidden purchases.
  • Versatile toolset for drawing, painting, and design tasks (layers, options).
Cons
  • Major UI/UX overhaul relocates toolbars and controls to the top, causing widespread frustration.
  • No option to revert or customize the workspace to the pre-update layout.

I go into the app one day just to see a message that said, “storage is low and document recovery has failed. Please clear up 3.2 gigabytes” so then I clear up some storage and it STILL says the message, making the app unusable. I made so many good drawings and it was the only good free drawing app that I could find. I would have rated it 5 stars but sense the message showed up, I can’t do digital art anymore. And I tried adobe illustrator and a bunch of other apps, but I got so used to adobe fresco that I can’t even do other apps.

This update is horrible and there is no way to revert or customize the UI beyond moving the tool controls left or right. The top toolbar options cover the drawing area when I click on them, which is annoying. It is also important to know how much the image is zoomed in if your final project is going to print. It keeps the actual size in perspective. I use Fresco specifically because I do not like Procreate’s interface - you all DO NOT NEED to imitate Procreate. Moving the undo button is also just criminal, come on ya’ll…

I have used Adobe Fresco since it’s inception. I am a mixed media textile artist. My work is very detailed, intricate, and time consuming. Drawing my initial ideas out in various versions helps me visualize what I want to do. I photograph my work in progress, then draw in the stitching details to figure what works. It is a tremendous help, and I recommend it to all my students.
