BIDDING The game starts off with Bidding stage of the game (15,20,25,30). You hold bids when you are the dealer and make bids if you are not.

CALLS TRUMP If you have received the bid then you may call trump. Calling Trump allows you to decide what cards are the strongest. (Someone Always calls trump).

Discard Stage The player whom called the Trump will receive a kitty (4 extra cards). When you receive the Kitty you will be able to discard cards. The player who did not call Trump will only be able to discard the cards he has.

THE PLAY Each player, in turn, must follow suit if possible if trump has been player. If unable to follow suit, a player may play any card they would like. If players do not play trump they can play any card they like.

ACES OF HEARTS The Ace of hearts ignores trump rules (Except when trump is Hearts). This card can be played strategically to maximize your trick taking potential.

User Reviews

Overall, Auction / Forty Fives is a fun, family-friendly game that doubles as a learning tool and plays well in single-player mode. The flow is engaging, and some users are willing to pay for an ad-free version. Still, reviews repeatedly flag issues: biased AI with non-random dealing, poor/faulty rule handling (especially for partners/cutthroat and third man high), unreliable online play, and heavy ads with microcharges and UI annoyances.
Pros
  • Family-friendly and educational; kids learn strategy quickly.
  • Solid single-player against the computer; gameplay flows well.
  • Ad-free option available via a paid upgrade.
  • Accessible on tablets; easy to learn and play.
Cons
  • Biased AI and non-random card dealing; computer tends to win frequently.
  • Unreliable online play with freezes and failing invites.
  • Heavy ads and microcharges; ad-free option desired.
  • Rules for Partners/Cut Throat not implemented correctly (no third-man-high; following-suit issues).
  • UI/UX issues, such as the pass button covering cards and dragging to play being cumbersome on iPhone.

I tested this app out myself recently to see how it works. I only play verse the computer so that’s all I can speak to but it works pretty well. If I pass on the first hand of the game it freezes every time but that’s a minor thing. I wanted it so my kids could use it as a learning tool on their tablets and it worked great! I unleashed them at a family gathering after only about a month of them playing everyday with me next to them coaching strategy and they smoked my father and I in their first ever team match! 😂 They got it fast with this app to help teach them. Great tool for learning and fun enough to pass some time with as well.

When playing partners, third man high needs to be included in the strategy for CPU because it just ruins the bid otherwise. The CPU bidding style is also insane. I will constantly get overbid by my opponent and most times, they 3-4 trump cards but all rags

Computer always wins. Always has the better cards. It’s not random shuffle.
