User Reviews

Knights of San Francisco is lauded for its sharp writing, immersive world-building, and strong audio-visual presentation in a compact, text-based RPG. Players praise the narrative-driven, choose-your-own-adventure style and the minimal use of hard stats. Common drawbacks center on its brevity, perceived shallow depth, and limited replay value, along with a desire for more content or a sequel. Overall, it’s a polished, atmospheric experience that excels in storytelling but leaves players wishing for more.
Pros
  • Strong writing and engaging story that creates a vivid, unique world.
  • Immersive world-building and a distinctive post-apocalyptic setting.
  • Excellent music and art/graphics that enhance the atmosphere.
  • Text-based, narrative-driven mechanics with minimal reliance on numeric stats.
  • Short, polished, accessible experience with smooth controls and high-stakes choices.
Cons
  • Length is a common complaint; the game is perceived as quite short.
  • Limited depth and replay value; few opportunities for differing outcomes.
  • Linear feel with limited branching and exploration.
  • Desire for a sequel or extensions to expand the world and story.
  • Gameplay can feel too easy or lack challenging combat for some players.

Knights of San Francisco was an amazing game that I had a truly fun time playing. I really wish they would either make a sequel or another game based of its design.

I loved the way this adventure is formatted so cleanly and the story is great! Maybe a smidge too easy but that doesn’t ding the game at all

This game might not look like much at first, but it stands out among all the RPGs I’ve played thanks to the great writing and unique setting. A limited number of scenes is enough to create a vivid world where imagination fills in the gaps. Although the gameplay is ultimately not too difficult, the story is suspenseful and every choice feels high-stakes. Great music and art as well. Thoroughly recommended.
