User Reviews

PlayScore 2 is a powerful tool for choir directors, offering score digitization, playback, tempo control, and easy sharing. It shines when input materials are high quality and music is metered, and it saves rehearsal time. However, users report reliability issues with recognition accuracy, dependence on input quality, and gaps for unmetered music and percussion, along with occasional playback glitches. Overall, it’s a strong aid under favorable conditions but has notable reliability and feature-gap caveats.
Pros
  • A game changer for rehearsal that saves time for choirs and directors without a full-time accompanist
  • Ability to split parts (SATB) and record or highlight individual lines for practice
  • Strong score digitization/import capabilities (PDFs or photos) with playback and a large score library
  • Tempo control and the ability to bracket sections for targeted practice
  • Easy sharing of practice tracks with choir members (screen recordings and playback)
Cons
  • Inconsistent recognition accuracy: the app can misread notes and rhythms, producing wrong playback
  • Input quality dependency: results rely on high-resolution PDFs/photos; low-quality inputs yield poor or unusable playback
  • Limited support for unmetered music and percussion (and some repertoire types)
  • Occasional reliability glitches in playback (e.g., skipping measures or other timing issues)

It plays all the lines on a page simultaneously, as if it's a score. To hear a single line, you have to manually mute all other lines. Also plays incorrect rhythms if triplets are too close to or within 16th runs.

I scanned the paper to stuff and it doesn’t even give the right rhythm or beat. This app sucks.

After scanning the same sheet of music in multiples ways, lights, and backgrounds this system is just not accurate enough yet especially not being able to edit it or see where and what the incorrect notes even are.
