User Reviews

The Eclipse Guide app is praised for informative eclipse data and accessible visualization, and its global, GPS-based view makes it useful anywhere. Users cite strong, clean design and good value. Repeated concerns focus on monetization (maps/features cost), weak mapping capabilities (limited cities, no street detail, missing path line), and a lack of future eclipse data. Location saving/search is limited, and some UI issues on iPad detract from the experience.
Pros
  • Detailed eclipse data and visualization (degree of totality, timing, and time-lapse sky view).
  • Location-aware and globally useful, showing what you can see from any location based on GPS.
  • Clean, intuitive interface that is easy to use.
  • Good value for money; low-cost upgrade with meaningful features.
  • Strong design quality and positive comparisons to other astronomy apps.
Cons
  • In-app purchases and paid upgrades for maps/features, perceived as nickel‑and‑diming (price inconsistencies across devices).
  • Poor map quality and limited geographic data (no street-level detail, sparse cities, incorrect landmass proportions, missing center line of the eclipse path).
  • Limited future eclipse data; only reachable up to 2022–2024 and not updated for future events.
  • Location features missing or limited (no ability to save custom locations, limited search, coordinates not easily saved).
  • UI/UX issues on iPad and other layout quirks (bottom menu can block content).
