User Reviews

Players praise Sim Empire for its engaging city-building, regional variety, and deep tech progression, plus social trading aspects and a Caesar-era vibe. However, the game is frequently dogged by bugs, crashes, and stability issues; progression often feels gated by paywalls and timers. Account/server problems and inconsistent access to purchased content are common complaints, as are locked civilizations and resource-balancing concerns. Overall, strong concept and visuals are offset by stability, monetization pacing, and reliability issues that hinder long-term enjoyment.
Pros
  • Engaging city-building gameplay with a Caesar/Pharaoh vibe and diverse regional buildings.
  • Beautiful art style and varied architecture that changes by region, with a wide range of buildings across industry, commerce, agriculture, and decor.
  • Deep progression through a rich skill/tech tree and meaningful tech choices.
  • Social features like trading with friends, learning technologies together, and communicating with others.
  • Overall feel is fun and unique, offering substantial depth without mandatory real-money spending.
Cons
  • Persistent bugs, crashes, and performance issues that slow progress and affect playability.
  • Monetization that gates progression (timers, diamonds, accelerated builds, and paid civilizations), making some paths feel pay-to-win.
  • Frequent account/servers/login problems (Facebook linking, lost access to purchases, data or DLC not reliably accessible).
  • Content access problems (certain civilizations like Aztec locked or reserved for long periods; DLC/content not consistently reachable).
  • Balance and planning concerns (resource scarcity and perceived monopolies, plus unclear upgrade costs and prerequisites for buildings).

I purchased the China Civilization DLC just a few days ago and barely had a chance to play it. I used the “Delete all civilizations of this account” button because I thought it would let me start over. Instead, my account was permanently locked with Error xx003. Customer support simply told me to create a new account. Am I really expected to pay for the DLC again? This is completely unacceptable. There should be a clear warning before this action. I wish I could upload the email I got from customer support.

Love the game but wish there’s a way to delete the cities and start over.
