User Reviews

Many users laud Run With Hal for effective, pace-predicting training plans and motivational coaching, delivered through a user-friendly interface. However, recurring concerns across reviews include a costly subscription model with a removed free tier, limited scheduling flexibility, lack of Apple Watch/ Garmin integration, and several technical or billing issues. The app’s value hinges on whether users prioritize proven plans and accountability over its paywall, rigidity, and integration gaps.
Pros
  • Training plans that deliver real results, including accurate race pace predictions that users report meeting or exceeding.
  • Encouraging, personalized coaching style that helps users stay motivated and confident in their ability.
  • User-friendly interface with clear, organized planning that users find easy to follow.
  • Structured plans provide accountability and a clear path for marathon training.
  • Access to well-known Hal Higdon-based programs offers credibility and familiarity for longtime runners.
Cons
  • Subscription model and removal of a free tier; many users feel the app is not worth the cost and dislike forced trials and ongoing payments.
  • Inflexibility in scheduling and planning: difficulty swapping or rescheduling workouts, no drag-and-drop adjustments, and limited ability to adapt for injuries or life events.
  • Lack of device integration: no Apple Watch support and inconsistent Garmin syncing, with many interactions requiring manual data entry.
  • Technical and support issues: frequent bugs, login/auth problems, black screen or crashes, and slow or unhelpful customer support with billing disputes.
  • Pace/plan alignment issues: some users report long-run paces and weekly targets being misaligned with their current goals or updated race pace.

I won’t pay for this again. It ends up being quite discouraging. The distances are OK and on par with the PDFs from the website, but the paces are a bit ridiculous. Check out Reddit threads for more. Gives me a bad “grade” for going farther but not quite as quickly. Won’t connect with Apple Watch and the gps doesn’t match distances. My Apple Watch gives much more feedback than the app. Great for tracking but not great for coaching.

The app failed to sync my completed runs despite telling me that my garmin was synced. It then adapted the plan to the fallacy that I hadn’t been completing assigned workouts. I discovered this right before my race and realized it had been way over training me. You should really be QCing your product and hiring engineers that know what they’re doing. Gotta pay for talent. Support also gave me an LLM slop response when I inquired. Product was better before the glitchy auto adapt feature.
