Concentration for work & study

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Flow is a compact focus app that turns your work or study into focused intervals with breaks using the Pomodoro technique. It helps you concentrate on a task, stay productive, and reduce interruptions with notifications and an optional blocking mode. The timer supports multiple durations, a metronome, a custom session title, and inspirational quotes to keep motivation high.

Beyond timing, Flow provides session statistics, iCloud sync of stats, and integration with Apple Calendar and Health. It also offers Home & Lock screen widgets, Live Activities, Dynamic Island support, and a commitment mode to boost self-control. Use Flow to code late, study for exams, or manage work-from-home days without distraction.

User Reviews

Users praise Flow for its simple, minimalist UI and effective Pomodoro timer with an integrated app blocker that helps focus. The design is clean and unobtrusive, with calendar sync and Apple Watch compatibility mentioned positively. The main downsides are pricing and premium gating of features—several reviews say the free version is limited and blocking features require a paid tier. Reviewers also request more customization (multiple flows, built-in to-do list) to apply Flow to different tasks.
Pros
  • Simple, minimalist, distraction-free UI.
  • Effective Pomodoro timer with built-in app blocker.
  • Well-designed UX with calendar sync and Apple Watch support.
  • No ads and a strong free version.
  • Overall positive and reliable for focus tasks.
Cons
  • Pricing is frequently criticized as expensive, and many reviewers feel premium subscriptions are restrictive.
  • Core features are gated behind the premium plan (e.g., website blocking).
  • Users request more customization options (multiple flows, built-in to-do list) to fit different tasks.

So far I am pleased with the UI, it’s clean and does what it is supposed to do but unfortunately sound doesn’t work when completing the 25m or 5 minute intervals. This needs to get fixed.

I’m extremely disappointed with the synchronization reliability between the Mac and iOS versions. I enabled the option to sync data to Calendar, but the data never appeared in my calendar. Even worse, the data inside the Flow app itself became inconsistent — I originally had three records for today, but now only the middle one remains. There are also serious timer synchronization problems. The timer can keep running on the Mac app while the iOS notification is still active, but the iOS app itself shows no active timer at all. This makes the whole tracking system unreliable. Another confusing design choice is requiring tags for break time. Breaks are not related to my work categories, so forcing users to categorize rest periods adds unnecessary friction. The core idea of the app is productivity tracking, but inaccurate syncing and inconsistent timer states make it difficult to trust the data. Please prioritize fixing synchronization and reconsider the break tagging workflow.
