User Reviews

Users generally praise Channels: Whole Home DVR for a feature-rich, reliable DVR, generous self-storage options, easy remote access, a slick UI, and responsive developer support with good value. Common drawbacks include stability issues on Apple TV and other devices, unreliable remote streaming when off-site, occasional DVR problems like missed or corrupted recordings and audio dropouts, and setup/NAS security friction plus some pricing/hardware confusion.
Pros

  • Ability to store recordings on your own drives/NAS via DVR server
  • Remote viewing anywhere across devices with consistent access
  • Slick UI and easy navigation
  • Good value and responsive, active developer support
Cons
  • Stability issues on Apple TV and other devices, including crashes, memory leaks, and occasional 'can't connect to server' errors
  • Unreliable remote/off-site streaming (transporter errors; can be short or drop to five seconds)
  • DVR reliability problems like missed recordings, corrupted files, and audio dropouts
  • Setup can be complex, especially with NAS/security considerations; some users face friction configuring the system
  • Pricing confusion and hardware restrictions (monthly fees and not allowing you to use your own hard drive)

I’ve been using Channels almost every day for years. This app has allowed me to get rid of two cable boxes, saving almost $30 a month. Admittedly the setup can be complex, but I am experienced in software. The main features DVR, pausing and rewinding live tv, and being a media server serve all my non streaming media needs. Plus in the years of using it, I have only encountered a couple of bugs. This company should advertise this app more. Everyone always talks about Plex and Kodi. I know they are not 100% equivalent, but they share the same space.

Everything is great except that I’m paying for this and my PiP is blocked by you guys having a “Rate our App” popup over the picture. Hopefully this goes away now…

You need to pay for a TV streaming service. This is misleading. Its not an app to watch free Live TV
