User Reviews

KEF Control is plagued by reliability problems in the reviews: the app often can’t discover or connect to speakers, requiring frequent resets and reconfiguration. Updates and support are repeatedly criticized as lacking, and users cite two ineffective KEF apps plus a need for external workarounds (Ethernet setups, Apple Home, or external streamers). Positive mentions of the app are rare and tend to reference setup steps rather than ongoing control. Overall, the app experience is overwhelmingly negative with many considering returning the speakers until fixes arrive.
Pros
  • Wi‑Fi credential entry UI exists in the app and, after configuring it (often via the local network), the speakers can connect.
  • The app provides a control interface for the speakers when the connection is working.
  • Some users report partial interoperability with other tools (e.g., using Apple Home as a workaround for setup).
Cons
  • The app frequently fails to discover or connect to KEF speakers, making setup unreliable.
  • Stable operation often requires repeated resets/reconfigurations of the speakers.
  • There is a lack of updates or maintenance for the app/firmware for years, leading to ongoing issues.
  • Customer support from KEF is perceived as unresponsive or unhelpful by many users.
  • Two KEF apps (Control and Stream) are unreliable, and users commonly resort to external streamers or other workarounds.

My KEF LS50 wireless 1st gen sound great but wifi connectivity is a big problem. They just refuse to connect to Wi-Fi. The only way I have then reliably find and connect to the wifi is connecting them to my router with an ethernet cable. Then find them on the local network and go to their local IP address in a web browser. There is a section here where you can fill the Wi-Fi name and password and save it. Once done, they connect flawlessly and work justice as intended. No more issues. Hope you find joy in these wonderful speakers.
