Review summary

Users largely say Cardiograph Heart Rate can display a heart rate and is free, but reliability and usability are major problems. Many report inaccurate or constant readings, intrusive ads and hidden subscription charges, and a clunky UI with overlapping controls and limited navigation. Some reviews note device-specific issues and lack of finger-position cues. A minority claim acceptable accuracy or alignment with other devices, but the overall sentiment is negative.
Pros
  • Provides a heart rate reading.
  • Free to use (no upfront cost).
  • Readings can align with other devices (e.g., Apple Watch) in some cases.
  • Some users report the measurements as accurate.
Cons
  • Inaccurate or inconsistent heart rate readings across devices and activities (e.g., constant 72 bpm, wildly off results).
  • Ads are intrusive and monetization is aggressive, including hidden subscription costs.
  • Poor UI/UX with overlapping buttons, limited navigation, and crashes; users cannot save or view history effectively.
  • Device compatibility and finger-detection issues (no clear indicator to show finger is correctly positioned; readings can be unreliable across devices).

2026-05-11 dj***** This just shows you ads that won’t leave the screen unless you buy an app from the App Store.

2026-03-19 Mi***** This app is so far behind off it says my heart rate is at 36 which I’d be dead or it says it’s over 200 which again I’d be having a heart attack. This app needs to quit showing fake results and fake reviews. This is one of the worst apps you can download.

2025-07-01 Ps***** On my SE1 it worked OK, but now on my SE2 it just gives 72bpm every time, no matter what I’ve been doing, no matter which activity I select, even if my finger is not on the camera.

2025-03-09 cu***** Yes it is free but so polluted with adds I would rather just pay for an app rather than to contend with all the annoying ads.

2024-11-26 LT***** The HR readings were not accurate. I was hoping I could use this free app as a gap bridge when my other heart monitor (polar/visibility) was charging- jic I needed it. I would be better off using a 10 sec timer and taking my own. It’s nice that it’s free— and I’m familiar w/ the finger-to-camera method— but the readings were consistently off. It’s a good idea, but not reliable as it is rn.

2023-05-05 Ci***** Still testing this app but my review so far is not good. The app does not indicate that your finger is in position on the lens correctly and it seem to give the reading after removal of finger. It’s a no frills meter
