User Reviews

Users generally praise ASIAIR for turning astrophotography into an all-in-one, automated workflow that runs on a small device and frees them from laptops. The platform supports auto-focus, guiding, imaging, and planning, with ongoing feature additions and helpful community support. However, a recurring theme across reviews is reliability problems tied to software updates: new releases frequently introduce bugs, sometimes breaking polar alignment, plate solving, or basic operations, and some users cannot revert to stable versions. Connection/disconnection issues, limited non-ZWO hardware compatibility, and occasional UI/logging gaps further compromise overnight sessions. Overall, software stability remains a major concern.
Pros
  • All-in-one automated workflow for astrophotography (goto, guiding, imaging, autofocus, planning) that simplifies long-exposure nights.
  • Portable, compact device that runs on battery, removing the need for a laptop.
  • Growing feature set and ongoing improvements (live stacking, autofocus, planetarium planning) with a helpful community.
  • Responsive user support and active community feedback channels.
Cons
  • Frequent bugs introduced by software updates; users report difficulty reverting to stable versions and QA concerns.
  • Unreliable connections and device discovery; frequent disconnects and 'ASIAIR not found' errors across platforms.
  • Polar alignment and plate solving reliability issues that worsen after updates; goto and guiding problems observed.
  • Limited hardware compatibility and ecosystem constraints; several non-ZWO cameras/mounts are poorly supported or unsupported.
  • Lack of built-in issue notifications and some UI/UX shortcomings (needs UI refresh) that hamper situational awareness.
Recent reviews
This app provides all the tools and features you need to control your ZWO ASIAIR system, few bugs found in the polar alignment, sometimes apps freezes when transferring images to USB drives. Updates happens out of the blue!
